Los Angeles firm purchases South Waterfront site

Mack Urban plans to build a 281-unit apartment building in Portland.

The group bought the 1.67-acre parcel from South Waterfront developer Williams & Dame Development for $7.05 million. It's still early in the project's design phase, which was put off while the merger was in the works, but plans call for 281 for-rent apartments and 250 parking stalls.

What did Williams and Dame pay per acre, how long ago? How much have they invested? Mack Urban bought a 1.67-acre parcel from South Waterfront developer Williams & Dame Development for $7.05 million.

My bet? Public investments really pay off -- for private owners.
