Cover Oregon extends payment deadline

Cover Oregon and health insurance carriers agreed to extend the deadline for the first premium payment until Jan. 15.

Washington's exchange announced the same extension on Wednesday, and insurers nationwide are giving consumers buying coverage on other federal and state exchanges until Jan. 10 to make a payment. The moves are being made to address technological hangups and other problems the exchanges are having meeting initial enrollment deadlines.

Already, Oregon has pushed back the deadline for consumers to pick a plan from Dec. 15 to Dec. 27 because thousands lacked the information they needed from the exchange to make their choice. That deadline applies only to those who postmarked their applications by Dec. 4, officials said.
