Kitzhaber says middle class is disappearing

Gov. Kitzhaber spoke at the Oregon Leadership Summit, saying that despite Oregon's economic recovery, a generation of Oregonians face the prospect of lower living standards than their parents.

Oregon must change course, he said, and “try to stop the wage stagnation that’s really eroding the middle class.”

House Speaker Tina Kotek, D-Portland, said the goal to reduce poverty is ambitious, but said the whole state would benefit if the income gap narrows between those who are struggling and those who are well-off.

Middle Class is disappearing because Middle Class Jobs have disappeared. They still do not get it that jobs, not welfare is the issue here!!

Unfortunately the environmentalis t extremists have driven the many viable and environmentally responsible natural resources jobs out of this state. Between the restrictions, taxes and regulations what USED to be thriving communities are basically boarded up.

We cannot create an economy with Farmer's Markets, bike shops and food carts. Manufacturing jobs, timber jobs, as well as high tech could serve to regenerate Oregon's moribund economy.
