Hundreds of Oregonians attended Cover Oregon application fairs in search of savings or simply to comply with the new federal coverage requirement.
More than a dozen Cover Oregon staff in turquoise t-shirts dotted the hotel exhibition hall Sunday, calling numbers, helping people and directing traffic. Volunteer application assisters and agents staffed a ring of tables helping people complete applications. Another group helped check whether applications were complete.

Cover Oregon, a focal point of the federal Affordable Care Act, now hopes to manually process more than 40,000 applications by Dec. 4, the deadline to apply for coverage that kicks in by Jan. 1.
