Downtown Hillsboro's Wat'z Up Hillsboro Music Co. is closing after 23 years.
The family-owned music store at 270 E. Main St. offers everything from guitars to mandolins to skateboards, all amid vibrant Hawaiian decorations. Owners Ken and Kelly Scandlyn, in a letter posted on Facebook and mailed to media, said "with more and more Internet sales and the 'BIG BOX STORE CONCEPT' , the smaller stores have a hard a time competing." There's more information about the closure on the store's website.
Ken and Kelly Scandlyn bought the store in 1990 and since then have seen many changes in downtown and also the retail music business.
