The Timberline Ski Area on Mount Hood opened its Pucci chairlift, marking the beginning of the winter sports season.
Oregon's two other early-opening resorts, Mt. Hood Meadows and Mt. Bachelor, are waiting for more snow and are targeting their openings for next weekend, Nov. 22-24, conditions permitting.
Timberline reports 17 inches of new snow in the past three days, to bring the settled base to 26 inches. This isn't much, compared to the prodigious snow pack Mount Hood normally builds up over the winter, but it's enough to get things going.
