Portland startup Urban Airship is refocusing its business and trimming jobs to face a more competitive market.
The Portland company has raised close to $50 million since launching four years ago, including a $25 million venture capital round last February. And later this month it expects to generate its 100 billionth push message – more than half of them sent out this year alone.
That kind of scale and growth is beginning to attract attention from prospective rivals. Notably: IBM bought Urban Airship’s biggest competitor last month – a company called Xtify.
