Downtown Coos Bay buildings settling

Three buildings in downtown Coos Bay have begun to droop, coming to the attention of city engineers.

The experts say the troubles for all three can be traced to the wood pilings below ground that hold their foundations in place.

City officials say the problems are isolated incidents that may suggest a bigger, longer-term issue lurking below the streets.

City Manager Rodger Craddock said the city sits on numerous wood pilings, most of which are doing fairly well.
