Wyden unveils bill to end domestic spying

Oregon Democrat Ron Wyden and three other senators unveiled a proposal to end surveillance operations like those revealed by Edward Snowden.

Under legislation being pushed by Wyden, Democrats Mark Udall of Colorado and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut, and Republican Rand Paul of Kentucky, the government could only access telephone and Internet records of those suspected of terrorism or espionage.

The bill also would require a civil-rights advocate to be present during secret proceedings of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to safeguard the constitutional rights of millions of unsuspecting Americans whose communications have been monitored by the NSA.
