State of Jefferson secessionist movement ramps up

A tea party-inspired effort to create the state of Jefferson is gaining steam in Northern California and Southern Oregon.

Growing discontent over California regulations prompted the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors in a 4-to-1 vote last week to support the secessionist movement.

Southern Oregon and Northern California have long been known somewhat whimsically as the state of Jefferson, a reference to a movement in 1941 that gained steam until the start of World War II. Since then, the state of Jefferson has been mostly a state of mind.

If they really want to go, good riddance. The rural counties get more from the state than they pay in. If they don't want to participate in democracy, let them pay for themselves.

When government corruption and control infringe upon the rights of members of this Republic, no truer exercise of our rights put forth in the Constitution and Bill of Rights can be found, than in creating a new State that represents the voice of its constituents.
