Music label moves to Beaverton for better tax climate

Rise Records moved from downtown Portland to Beaverton last month to save hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxes each year.

Rise Records has signed about 35 bands, ranging from old-school punk outfits like the Bouncing Souls to Medford's big-name screamo group Sleeping With Sirens, whose newest album made No. 3 on Billboard's Top 200 albums chart in June.

Lorraine Clarno, president of the Beaverton Area Chamber of Commerce, said she's seen more businesses move from Portland to Beaverton in recent years.
