Kitzhaber appoints Employment Department head

Gov. John Kitzhaber named Vancouver economic development leader Lisa Nisenfeld as his pick to lead Oregon's Employment Department.

Nisenfeld has led the Columbia River Economic Development Council for almost two years, and spent the decade before that in charge of the Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council.

Nisenfeld's arrival would mark a new chapter for the agency, reeling from a six-week state inquiry this spring. Officials concluded in a July report that dysfunction and distrust were hindering the agency's ability to properly function.
