SolarWorld laying off 100 in Hillsboro

SolarWorld plans to lay off 100 of its 700 workers at its Hillsboro facility.

The company has struggled with competitive pressures from Chinese manufacturers who, according to SolarWorld, are flooding American markets with cheap panels.

The company said the layoff is expected to be permanent. The move involves no “bumping,” or the ability to assume other positions within SolarWorld, because the workers aren’t members of a collective bargaining unit.
