Oregon Senate bans canola in Willamette Valley

The Oregon Senate passed House Bill 2427, largely banning the growing of canola in the Willamette Valley until January 2019.

The bill now heads to the governor.

Supporters said the legislation was needed to protect Oregon's growing specialty crop industry from cross-contamination with canola.

Opponents said the matter should be left to the Department of Agriculture to decide and that the Legislature was overstepping its authority in regulating what crops farmers should grow.

Now after proving government is incapable of everything they have responsibility for, why not regulate farmers. I am sure the government is going to be great at that also.
