Oregon budget cycle begins

Oregon's two-year budget cycle begins today without a completed budget.

Spending authority for government agencies expired at midnight, and the Legislature has not yet approved new spending authority for many state agencies.

A government shutdown is not imminent, however. That's because lawmakers approved a continuing resolution the keeps the government running at current funding levels through Aug. 15.
