Oregon cracks down on foul odors

Oregon regulators developed a strategy to deal with bad smells from compost plants, landfills and other sources.

The Department of Environmental Quality's proposed strategy was driven in part by complaints about Nature's Needs compost plant in North Plains and Daimler Trucks' plant in North Portland.

It would cover several thousand facilities with permits from DEQ, though inspections and enforcement would apply to a limited set of sources with high numbers of complaints and clearly identifiable foul odors.
