Oregon's congressional clout rises

Oregon's clout in Congress is growing faster than almost all other states.

Since 2009, only three states -- Louisiana, Delaware and South Carolina -- have increased their influence in Congress more than Oregon, according to the new "Roll Call Clout Index."

The primary reasons would be no surprise to anyone who follows Oregon politics -- Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden now chairs the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee and Republican Rep. Greg Walden heads the National Republican Congressional Committee and is chairman of a House telecommunications subcommittee.

Oregon advanced from 39th in 2009 when Barack Obama took the presidency to 26th this year. Ironically, Oregon is 27th in population, so you could argue the state is just about where it should be when it comes to influence.
