Declining green bean business reflects end of seasonal packing era, owners say.

For years, the company’s special products division has outpaced the traditional canning side of its business. The shelf-stable foods in trays and pouches have better colors, flavors, and textures than conventionally canned food.

The West Salem plant also went through a round of layoffs last year, trimming 100 positions, but its business has since improved.
