House Bill 2932 would have Oregon plan and implement a four-day workweek for state workers, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Although it is unlikely to be implemented soon, the bill proposes one way of fixing the state's current budget gap.

"The real point of this bill is to look at some alternative ways of doing business in state government," said [Rep. Paul] Holvey, who's co-chairman of the House General Government Committee, which heard the bill but took no action Thursday.

"It has some pros to it and perhaps some cons. But it's another concept that the state should take a close look at. This bill may need some amendments, but I think the idea behind this is whether we can find efficiencies or ways to save money and energy."
