Intel has a partnership with Google and Sony on a new product called "Google TV," that will connect television with the Internet.

The product is based around Intel's Atom processor, which could prove to be a breakthrough for the company, although some are skeptical of Intel's viability beyond its main computer business.

"It opens a door, but I still think Intel's going to have to execute," said Craig Berger, an analyst who follows the company for FBR Capital Markets. "That's something they've had a difficult time doing outside of their core market."

Google TV, unveiled Thursday morning at a Google technology conference in San Francisco, will be sold in a variety of permutations beginning late this year.
