Kettle Foods, best known for its Kettle Chips products, has been bought by Diamond Foods Inc. for $615 million.

Diamond will acquire Kettle's U.S. and U.K. operations, with the deal expected to close by the end of Diamond's 2010 fiscal year.

Here the brand has landed with a terrific company and group of people who value what Kettle is all about," said Tim Fallon, Kettle's president and general manager. The deal shouldn't mean big changes, or consolidation, for Kettle's manufacturing operations in Salem, he said.

Diamond also is a snack foods company, but it has previously focused on nuts and popcorn products. It is the maker of the Emerald Nuts and Pop Secret brands.
