Dispute draws out session

Disagreement over the annual-sessions ballot measure has delayed the early end of the Legislature's special session.

While the session's self-imposed deadline is set for Sunday, the issue is splitting legislators within the House, as well as dividing the House from the Senate.

...the House cleared an annual-sessions ballot measure on a 34-24 vote along party lines. The proposal differs from what the Senate passed Feb. 17 on a bipartisan vote of 24-6.

The Senate version calls for sessions of 135 days in odd-numbered years, 30 days shorter than in the House version. Both propose 45-day sessions in even-numbered years.
