After being awarded a $4.7 million federal tax credit to build a new plant in Gresham, German solar manufacturer Centrosolar Oregon says plans for the plant depend on the growth of the American and European solar markets.
Centrosolar's development is highly anticipated as a boom to the local clean-tech sector.
CentroSolar America chief executive Deep Chakraborty said Tuesday that while the German company has plans to establish a sales and engineering office in Oregon during the next six months, the details of its production plans are still somewhat tentative.
"We have to continue our sales growth in North America, which is crucial to sustain a healthy production facility in the long term," Chakraborty said. "Therefore, we are focusing heavily on strengthening our value proposition in the solar marketplace and building our sales channels, which is really the core of our business.
