Adams focuses on software industry

Portland Mayor Sam Adams spoke with the city's software community this week about plans to nurture the regional business in 2010.

Adams said Portland has adopted a more narrow-focused approach to business recruitment that will hopefully yield better results.

When the city laid out its economic development strategy last spring, it set four priorities: clean tech/sustainability, athletic apparel and design, software, and advanced manufacturing. The city already has its sustainability strategy in hand. Early next year, Adams said, it will go to work drafting a software strategy.

Already, though, Adams said the city is making progress on software. He cited the city's support of the Open Source Bridge conference in June, OSCON's pending return to Portland, and a council resolution to adopt open source technology when possible.
