Supercomputer convention underway

Thosands of vendors and company representatives head to the Oregon Convention Center this week for Supercoming '09, the city's largest annual convention.

Microbiologists, climatologists, astrophysicists, hedge fund traders, aerospace engineers and many, many others will be in Portland [this week] to check out the latest advances in top-notch computing. Organizers expect upwards of 10,000 attendees, all told, who have booked up nearly all hotel rooms near downtown for the city’s largest convention of the year.

“You’ve really got, in the Portland area the next week and a half, some of the top scientists from around the world, and they love this technology,” said Wilf Pinfold, an Intel researcher in Hillsboro who is chairing the conference.
