Designers of the Columbia River Crossing have reduced their plans for the bridge that could shave $650 million from the estimated $4.2 billion project.

The proposed changes, which were discussed Thursday, would reduce the maximum estimated cost of the Interstate 5 bridge over the Columbia River and freeway project from $4.2 billion to $3.6 billion. The estimated minimum cost would drop from $3.1 billion to $2.6 billion...

Recommendations will be formally presented on Dec. 4 to the Project Sponsors Council overseeing the project. At that time, the council can decide whether to accept the recommendations, change them or postpone making a decision.
