Catering to this “credit-constrained consumer” has brought Atlanta-based Aaron’s rapid expansion and quarter after quarter of profits through the worst economic slump since the Great Depression. Not even Wal-Mart can make that claim.

“Even in high unemployment markets, we’re performing well and seeing real positive same-store revenues. That tells you the strength of our business,” Aaron’s Chief Financial Officer Gilbert Danielson told investors recently.
