The debate over Lents is finally over after a canceled neighborhood vote. Now Merritt Paulson and Commissioner Randy Leonard are preparing to look elsewhere for a place to build a Beavers baseball stadium.

City Commissioner Randy Leonard met with Portland Beavers owner Merritt Paulson and said the two agreed to look until Aug. 1 for another location in Portland to build the stadium.

If that effort fails, Leonard said he'll reluctantly support Paulson's attempts to look for a ballpark outside of Portland proper.

Why do we need MLS anyway? The Timbers don't draw that many fans. Let the Beavers remain in PGE park and put dollars into schools and teachers. That's where our future lies...not with a soccer ball.

How about the Troutdale airport area, where Reynolds once occupied the land? Easy vehicle traffic flow, I-84 or Marine drive, air traffic from airport, could redirect Max or bus lines to help.
Seems like an area begging for development beyond the UPS terminal.
