Oregon's jobless rate has spiked again, this time to an all-time high (since recording began in 1976). Experts say the rate will stay fairly consistent for the next year.

State employment economist Art Ayre said the jobless rate likely would remain at a "plateau" for at least a year.

"We have risen very rapidly," Ayre said. "We are now at a high rate, and it could continue at a high rate for awhile."

State economists began tracking unemployment using consistent measures in 1976 – May's figure is now considered the highest since the previous record was set in November 1982 at 12.1 percent.
