The water in beach streams may seem clean, but often it is far from it. Many cities have noticed the problem and have been making efforts to clean up.
You know that lovely little creek running across the sand to meet the sea? The stream your kids play in? The one where your dog takes a drink?In some beach towns, chances are there is raw sewage in that water, definitely some bird doo, probably some wildlife droppings and most certainly some mess from domestic pets.
That water may be fresh -- as opposed to salt -- but it's hardly clean. Rather, such creeks are often linked to city storm water drainage and can carry all sorts of things -- some deposited by nature, some by mistake and some just out of pure disregard.
