It's still to be seen whether Vestas Americas will follow through on its promise of a new Portland headquarters, but city leaders hope it will happen. Maybe once the economy improves....

The Danish wind turbine company, which has its North American headquarters in Portland, took a pass on the city’s offer to base a research facility here in 2008 and, more recently, delayed plans to relocate its headquarters to South Waterfront.

“We have been to the altar with Vestas before,” said Jim Francesconi, a Portland lawyer and former Portland city commissioner. “If the project is not going to proceed, the city needs to withdraw its offer and start over again.”

Bioscience complex will house six local companies in 2013
