Seaport Airlines will stop scheduled flights between Astoria and Portland this month, with the last flight on March 12.

Despite recent efforts to keep the service, not enough interest remained in the short flights to keep them fiscally viable.

The Port received a state grant to subsidize air service in Clatsop County in 2008. This money was set to run out mid-March of this year, with the hopes that the service would be running on its own steam. Instead, over the last two years, SeaPort saw only consistently empty passenger seats and an economy that wasn’t improving.

The passenger load has rarely exceeded one to two people per flight over the past weeks, according to Astoria Regional Airport Manager John Overholser.
