The University of Oregon's search for a new coach has been a whirlwind national tour featuring private jet rides and headhunter meetings, but no one has taken the bait.

Register-Guard columnist George Shroeder offers his tips on landing a big, fat fish.

The quality of life in the Willamette Valley is very nice.

But there’s no nearby recruiting ground to mine, and no tradition of winning to draw from. And despite the money and never mind Nike, that’s not going to change overnight.

To land someone, mention the building. Offer the big bucks.

To read Shroeder's column visit the Register-Guard.

My thanks go out to all the higher education facilities for getting their priorities straight. It'd be terrible to forego a basketball team instead of wasting time and money to lower tuition. Seriously people, millions of dollars in order to watch a handful of "students" throw a ball through a goal? Private jet indeed.
