I was raised by a single father, and I later became a single parent. I received public benefits, but I always made sure to pay back every dime, thru hard work. Fast forward to 2013, and my adult child, earns more money than I do. I am so proud. I managed to raise a successful child, despite being a single parent. Perhaps my story is an exception to the norm, but I believe that with some gentle encouragement, practical assistance, and good examples to follow, as opposed to shaming, many single parents can be successful. Perhaps the ideal situation is for every child to have two parents, but in our society, that is not really possible anymore. Let's be real. Our economy will never be the same as it was in the pie-in-the-sky 1950's. Never again.
