This year, the firm was ranked #2 in the Small Business category, and also received the second highest overall score among all 100 Companies listed. The firm was proud to be ranked directly behind one of their favorite companies: The Hershey Chocolate Company’s Dagoba Plant in Ashland received the top honor this year. Barran Liebman was the only law firm to be recognized in the Small Company category.

The 100 Best list is compiled annually by Oregon Business Magazine, who rely primarily upon employee satisfaction surveys, with additional data from employer benefits surveys to compile their rankings. This year, more than 11,000 Oregon workers evaluated 248 employers. Oregon Business found that employees placed the highest importance on treatment by supervisors and management; flexibility to balance family, community and job obligations; pride and belief in the company; teamwork, cooperation, and fun at work; and trust in management decisions, all of which are highly prioritized at Barran Liebman. Shannon Scheewe, a Paralegal with the firm, commented, “What makes this place different is the atmosphere. Everyone genuinely enjoys seeing each other and working with each other on a daily basis. The whole firm comes together for fun events like lunches and happy hours and it fosters a strong sense of community and pride in the team.” Oregon Business Magazine also praised Barran Liebman for rewarding “staff with bonuses, paid maternity leave and good benefits” and for its dedication to pro bono work.

The 100 Best Awards were awarded on Thursday night at a ceremony at the Oregon Convention Center. In accepting the award, Barran Liebman’s Managing Partner, Ed Harnden acknowledged that as a law firm representing employers, it’s great to have your own employment policies recognized as exemplary. He also took the opportunity to “celebrate our involvement in the community, because that’s what we’re all about. Whether it’s Camp Ukandu, a camp for kids with cancer, or legal aid, for people who really need to have the help of the justice system, across the board that’s where we’re striving to make a difference.”
