This just in from Oregon’s ever-growing beer biz: Portland-based startup Indie Hops will donate $1 million to Oregon State University to launch a new breeding program for aroma hops grown in the Willamette Valley. Add that donation to a second million-dollar Indie Hops investment to develop the first hop pellet mill in the Valley along with cold storage and distribution facilities, and you’ve got a new company that could give craft brewers the stability — and respect — that they deserve.

Hire a Beer Czar
written by J-Sin , February 11, 2010 3:58:00 pm PST The wonderful state of Oregon should hire a Beer Czar, who's job it will be to promote, build-up and attract all things beer to the state. The ultimate mission of this czar is to make Oregon the absolute number one beer state in the country. Surely this would create good-paying, stable jobs for a state that has chronic high underemployment and joblessness. Why not give it a shot? State leaders are trying to make the state an attractive hub for the sustainable energy industry. Just a thought. Drink it up. report abuse
