Help wanted ads plummet

Total help-wanted ads placed in The Oregonian during 2010 represent only 7% of the total placed five years ago in 2006. 2010 ads in the Bend Bulletin make up only 9% of its 2006 total. More responsible for this decline than the sour economy has been the migration of such ads to websites. Online employment ads for 2010, according to the Conference Board, grew 23% in Oregon and 32% in Portland versus 2009. For February year-to-date, they are up 13% and 18%, respectively, versus 2010.
