A roundup of transactions, mergers and big deals of the month.

1. Shearer’s Foods in Hermiston will undergo an $18 million expansion to add 140,000 square feet to its snack food plant. It expects to add 50 workers and construction should be completed by winter 2011. Shearer’s manufactures regular and kettle-style chips and other snacks.

2. ON Semiconductor, which has a major presence in Gresham, has bought a division of Sanyo Electric Co. for $366 million. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2010 and is expected to boost ON revenues by $1.2 billion. The Gresham plant employs more than 400.

3. FedEx Ground has opened its new $100 million 514,000-square-foot facility in Troutdale and is expected to hire 243 part-time handlers. The new hub is seven times bigger than the previous Swan Island location and will employ at least 600, as well as 200 drivers.

4. Portland-based KC Distance Learning (KCDL) has been purchased by K12 Inc. in Virginia for $63.1 million in stock. KCDL provides education products to schools and families. It reported revenues of $34.7 million in 2009 and will continue to be based in Portland.

5. Tualatin-based Gramor Development has secured a $45 million loan from U.S. Bank to start construction on the $60 million Progress Ridge Townsquare. The 325,000-square-foot retail development took five years of planning and will be anchored by a New Seasons Market and Cinetopia. It’s located on the city line between Tigard and Beaverton.

6. Portland-based private equity firm Endeavour Capital has invested $10.5 million in Providien Inc., a new medical device company based out of Phoenix, Ariz. Providien is a holding company looking to acquire smaller medical manufacturing companies in order to provide multiple services as a single manufacturer.
