100 Best Methodology

We selected the 2010 100 Best Green Companies based on Sustainable Practices sections in both the employee and employer surveys completed last year by over 26,000 employees from 505 for-profit companies and nonprofit organizations. Participation in the 100 Best survey is voluntary and free of charge. Companies needed at least 15 full- or part-time Oregon employees at the time of the survey; nonprofits needed at least 10.

Employee survey
For the 2010 survey over 26,000 Oregon workers rated satisfaction and importance in 10 statements related to sustainable practices.

Employer benefits survey
Employer representatives also answered 10 questions about their company or nonprofit’s sustainable business practices.

Scoring
The employee survey counts for two thirds of an employer’s score, out of a possible 200 points, with average employee satisfaction and importance ratings each representing one third of the total. The employer benefits survey is also scored on a 100-point scale, accounting for the other third of the overall score, and resulting in a total possible score of 300 points.
