After working on a project to dot the roundabouts on Bend’s west side with sculpture, art supporter Mike Hollern, CEO of Brooks Resources, wasn’t ready to quit. He started ArtMatch, a program backed by $500,000 in matching funds from Brooks, to buy even more public art in Bend between now and 2010.

Yesterday, a divided National Labor Relations Board dropped another hammer on the employer community. In a long-awaited and much debated move, the Board jettisoned the decades old standard for determining when two independent businesses should be considered joint employers of an individual worker for collective bargaining purposes.
