CORVALLIS — Think an urban company lacks the space for its own wind farm? Think again. Stel Walker, assistant head of Oregon State University’s department of mechanical engineering, worked with California manufacturer AeroVironment to design a micro wind turbine. Customers decide how many turbines are sufficient to meet their power generating needs. “The idea is to make buildings as self-sufficient as possible,” Walker says. Steven Gitlin of AeroVironment says customers include Austin Energy in Texas and the Camden Aquarium in New Jersey.
