Oregon State University is raising money for a building to house the Marine Mammal Institute at the Hatfield Marine Science Center. The $12 million institute, expected to open in 2010, will focus on creating collaborative, multidisciplinary research bonds between scientists here and around the world. Bruce Mate, the first scientist to use satellites to track whales, will take charge of the institute.
