NEWPORT — Didn’t make it to Europe this year? You can still sport a white oval sticker letting the world know where you vacation. Newport joined the ranks of the bumper sticker legions this fall with its own “ONP” white ovals. While the initials stand for Oregon Newport Parks, Jim Protiva, director of Parks and Recreation, says it’s OK if you read it as “Oregon Newport.” Proceeds from the $2 stickers are earmarked for beautification projects around the city, such as sprucing up the “Welcome to Newport” signs. Protiva estimates about 1,500 stickers have been sold so far.
