Engineer Kevin Green and winery-equipment supplier Bruce Felix met in a wine-making class, but more than just a few bottles of wine emerged. Seeing a gap in Oregon’s expanding wine market, they created Pacific Wineries, a “one-stop shop” for winery construction, expansion or renovation. The venture is a partnership between Green’s company, Evergreen Engineering in Hillsboro; Felix’s company, Pacific Winemaking in Carlton; and Felix’s former employer from time overseas, Wineries by Design, an Australian company. Pacific Wineries handles the entire process from design to construction to equipping the winery. The partnership, announced in June, has already landed a design project for Seufert Winery in the Willamette Valley.

Oregon's roads are crumbling, and revenues from state and local gas taxes are not sufficient to pay for improvements. We asked readers if the private sector should help fund transportation maintenance and repairs. Research partner CFM Strategic Communications conducted the poll of 366 readers in February.
"I feel private enterprises are capable of operating at a higher efficiency than state government."
