Oregon’s September unemployment rate was 15th-highest among the 50 states, an improvement over last year when it was 10th. For 42 months in 2001 to 2004, it was the first- or second-highest state rate. Neighboring California and Nevada rates are now higher, while those in Washington and Idaho remain lower. Within Oregon, Bend saw the greatest rate increase over the last year, jumping 2.3 points to 6.8% in September. Corvallis continues to enjoy the lowest unemployment among Oregon metro areas.
