Poor Economics: A Radical Rethinking of the Way to Fight Global Poverty By Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo

“Benerjee and Duflo are both economists at MIT who co-founded the Poverty Action Lab. The mission of the Poverty Action Lab is to reduce poverty by ensuring that policy is based on scientific evidence. The book is fascinating and provides insights into the economic and personal decisions made by people who earn less than a dollar a day (approximately 1 billion people): insights based on real data which is critical to establishing good development policy and programs.”

The Healing of America By T.R. Reid

“I am on the CareOregon board, so I am also very interested in health care and how to transform/improve care while reducing costs. The author visits wealthy countries around the world and explains their health care systems and how they compare with ours. Health care in the U.S. is immensely complicated and politicized, and this book is a great tool to demystify the topic and to help all of us to think about what could work to improve the US system.”
