This company offers some pretty nice perks: spring break massages, an ice cream tab, and a Hood to Coast relay team. But what employees seem to really appreciate about this recruiting and consulting firm are the flexible schedules, family-friendly atmosphere and attention to work-life balance. “Not a day goes by that positions and processes aren’t considered to create a more equitable and positive environment in which to do our jobs and enjoy our lives,” says one employee. “Recruiting, historically, can be ruthless,” comments another employee. “But that is the farthest from the truth in this office. We laugh, we act as a giant team and we pay compliments forward.” Employees also like the fact that staff opinions count. “This is a very entrepreneurial environment,” says one worker. “The partners support initiatives that are raised as ideas from the team members.” Caring and supportive owners are another plus. “When we face a problem, they move heaven and earth to help fix it,” observes one employee. “There’s really no place like it.”
Those sentiments and benefits have helped land this company on the 100 Best list 9 times. It has been on the top 10 list three times.

The sweltering weather didn't keep the crowds away. Although the numbers were down slightly from last year, the Oregon Food Bank raised $850,636 to fight hunger. About 80,000 people attended despite temperatures in the upper 90s.

Market of Choice is on a tear. In 2012 the 35-year-old Eugene-based grocery chain opened a central kitchen/distribution center in its hometown. The market opened a third Portland store in the Cedar Mill neighborhood this year; a Bend outpost broke ground in March. A fourth Portland location is slated for the inner southeast “LOCA” development, a mixed-use project featuring condos and retail. Revenues in 2014 were $175 million, a double-digit increase over 2013. CEO Rick Wright discusses growth, market trends and how he keeps new “foodie” grocery clerks happy.

Yesterday, a divided National Labor Relations Board dropped another hammer on the employer community. In a long-awaited and much debated move, the Board jettisoned the decades old standard for determining when two independent businesses should be considered joint employers of an individual worker for collective bargaining purposes.
