Every year Microsoft office cafes recycle 10,000 gallons of cooking grease into biodiesel, and in 2011, the entire company donated $844 million worth of software to nearly 47,000 nonprofits. Here in Oregon, such social and environmental support repeatedly wins kudos from employees. Says one, “We work in a gorgeous office with a beautiful view in a LEED building. We have an annual giving campaign where our money is matched dollar-for-dollar, and organizations we donate time to receive $17 an hour for the time we spend with them. It’s amazing.”
