Hours: Open daily. Coffee: 7 a.m. – 6 p.m. Lunch: 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Bar: 4 p.m. – midnight. Kitchen: 4 p.m. – midnight.
Owner: Jesse Hayes
Atmosphere: Coffee shop and lunch venue by day; polished hipster bar by night. Industrial chic mixed with clubby library feel.
Clientele: Professionals and students during the day. Evenings attract couples and night owls keen on the craft cocktail scene.
Best seat in the house: Wooden bar in front of plate glass windows that open onto street and sidewalk. Booths across from the bar provide privacy and 180-degree views of venue.
Bragging rights: “We’re serving high end mixology and specialty coffee, but we’re not an elitist place,” says Hayes. Archive also features a downstairs speakeasy. Hayes is very hush-hush about the space, which, as per speakeasy etiquette, is invitation only.
Mix It Up
Mad Men is so yesterday. But ‘tis the season for cocktail parties, and you’ll want to stay au courant with an array of fashionable Made in Oregon accessories. Spear an olive — or maraschino cherry — with an elegant brass pick. Do a little shaking in a stylish glass decanter. Guests will be transported back in time, even as you join the pioneers innovating Oregon’s modern drinking scene.
