More than 3,000 Southern Oregonians joined a Facebook group asking for a Trader Joe’s grocery store to open in their region.

Members of the group say they are tired of the long commutes they have to take to get to the closest Trader Joe’s, but the chain says the Medford area is “not in our two-year plan.”

Started in May by Stacie Brink of the Applegate, the group “went viral” in the last few weeks, with members praising Trader Joe’s turkey meatloaf, hummus, sandwich spread, seafood, vitamins and “Two-Buck Chuck” wine. See it at www.mailtribune.com/traderjoesfacebook…

Medford commercial property broker Sam Fung, who has discussed the issue with Trader Joe’s brokers during past bubbles of consumer interest, notes, “They told me it depends on demographics, budget, personnel, and that the Southern Oregon demographics may not be suitable at this time. The area is 200,000 people — but in San Diego, they can get that in a one-mile area, so they would prefer going there.”
